The Park Speaks
What is our connection to the plant kingdom, and what connection can electronic media give us to the environment?
The Park Speaks creates a relationship between information emerging in a botanic garden and plain text. The thing that determines the British language phrase on the website, is the corresponding level of reading from the data logger.
Between the data loggers and the internet is an Open Mesh wifi box hacked with a serial port and enhanced by some serious customised software that allows two way communication between data loggers and the website.
Live data is sent to the project website, where each piece of information is given a text correlation. There are after all, many ways to say it is 12 degrees Celsius: it's cold, it's chilly, not too warm, chilling down a bit, getting a bit on the cold side - they would all suffice and are matched to temperatures above and below 12.
